First Day of Summer

So I guess Memorial day is the first official day of summer... for me I still have about 2 weeks until it feels that way, but nonetheless today did feel like a good summer day. Especially with the temperature at a good 82 degrees. This morning I went to go see Raising Helen with my mom and little sister. I thought it was a very well done movie, definitely a tear jerker in parts though. Then Emma and I went swimming at Teddy Smith's house (thanks Teddy) and played with the Smith boys (Oliver 4, Noah 2). Whew those kids are tiring, but so much fun. Then came home for a yummy summer dinner of bbq'd hamburgers and fruit and baked beans (my favorite). Anyway that was my first summer day, fun, busy, then relaxing... all in all not bad.

almost done...

I figured out I only have 8 days of high school left! Sweet. 4 days of finals next week and then 4 days of senior week and then I graduate on June 10th! Yah! Then the week after that I'm going camping with about 15-16 friends up in Santa Cruz for a week. No parents just a group of newly graduated teens, should be awesome. Then sometime in July as soon as we figure out the dates Emma and I are going to New Jersey to visit friends Melissa and David. Yah more excitement! And 3 months from tomorrow I'll be moving away to San Diego to start school at San Diego State University. Wow, so just 3 months left of living at home, kind of surreal. Anyway that's my future as of right now! There's so much left open, so much that could happen, it's exciting...

Lunch and Stuff

California Pizza Kitchen (or CPK as Tim calls it) lunch with the Smith Family. It was fun hanging out with all of the Smiths and eating pizza (yum). Those 3 kids are definitely a handful, but so much fun at the same time. Tim and Jamie really are blessed.
I have been thinking lately about the Satellite community and how blessed I myself am to be a part of this wonderful group of people. In the past few months that I have been going to Satellite I have really begun to get to know some of these people and I thank God that they have become a part of my life. Even when it's just hanging out going to see a movie with Corrie or eating lunch with the Smiths, being around these people has helped me to see what it means to live a real Christian life and always trust in God. The peace that these people have with God in their lives is so amazing and something that I wish everyone could experience. It's so cool to be able to trust that whatever God has planned for my life it will all be okay if I just leave it in His hands.
So thank you Satellite group for showing me these things. I know some of you read this blog and I just wanted you to know the positive influence you have had on my life, and how important you all are to me.

Music Video

So this is my new favorite music video. I saw the video before I really listened to the lyrics. Then when I read the lyrics I really liked this song by Modest Mouse called "Float on". Click on the title of this blog to watch the video and hear the song... Here are the lyrics

"Float On"

I backed my car into a cop car the other day
Well he just drove off sometimes life's ok
I ran my mouth off a bit too much oh what can i say
Well you just laughed it off it was all ok

And we'll all float on ok
(x4)

Well, a fake Jamaican took every last dime with that scam
It was worth it just to learn from sleight-of-hand
Bad news comes don't you worry even when it lands
Good news will work its way to all them plans
We both got fired on the exactly the same day
Well we'll float on good news is on the way

And we'll all float on ok
(x3)
And we'll all float on alright
Already we'll all float on
Now don't worry we'll all float on
Alright already we'll all float on
Alright don't worry we'll all float on

And we'll all float on alright
Already we'll all float on
Aliright don't worry even if things end up a bit to heavy
We'll all float on alright
Already we'll all float on
Alright already we'll all float on
Ok don't worry we'll all float on
Even if things get heavy we'll all float on
Alright already we'll all float on
Don't you worry we'll all float on
All float on

The first few parts are kinda strange, but all in all I think the message is pretty good, no matter what happens "we'll all float on". Things will be ok even if times get tough. We just keep on going, whatever happens is not really that important because it gets better. Anyway that's my opinion of the song. Just listen. The videos pretty different, which is why i like it.

Ouch

Swollen and cut lip - elbowed in the face...
Re-bruised toe - stomped on again...
Swollen knee - permanent knee problems...
Scraped knee - multiple tumbles and slides...
Bruised tailbone - fell down about a flight of stairs today...

So needless to say I'm in a bit of pain. Soccer's great but it has it's negative side effects... and the stupid school stairs are kinda slippery. I just needed to get my complaining out there, sorry you had to read my whining. :)

Is no car safe?

My friend Kailey's car was broken into in the school parking lot today. Window smashed, dashboard messed up, and cd player and cd's stolen. She's the third friend of mine this year who's had their car broken into at school, and I'm sure there had to be others. There's this release form you have to sign when you get a parking lot pass that says the school's not responsible for anything that happens to our car in the parking lot. But come on, this is a little ridiculous. The fact that someone had enough time to smash a window, which has to make a lot of noise, and get away with it is pretty lame. You would think with this many break ins the school would at least attempt to do something, maybe they have i don't know, but it doesn't seem like it.

Prom Pictures

I still haven't quite figured out the whole publishing pictures on the blog thing yet, but if you copy and paste this link i am pretty sure you'll be able to see a slide show i made of my before prom pictures, the pictures during prom haven't been developed quite yet. http://www.photoshow.net/scripts_main/build/player.php?show=HWpFcQExd Ok I figured out a different easier way, just click on the title of this blog and it should take you to the site.

The Case of the Missing Vending Machines

So I'm at school, got a little hungry, and I thought hmm, why don't I go get some chips from the vending machine. I get to the vending machine place, look up, and WHAM, there's no vending machine there. Hmm I thought to myself, that's a little odd, but oh well I'll just go to another machine since there are about 10 around campus. When I got to the next place where a vending machine should have been it was gone too! Turns out ALL of the vending machines around campus were gone. Dun dun duuun. How could it be? How were the poor hungry students of Millikan High School supposed to eat? As the whole school walked around in a haze of shock and dismay, some crying, others unable to comprehend, some rumors began to circulate on how the vending machines "disappeared". The most popular one seemed to be that the school thought that all of us students were just a little too fat from eating vending machine junk food so in an effort to save us from our certain future obesity they took a grand step in removing the dangerous machines of fat and calories. Someone else said that a few kids played a prank over the weekend and just up and stole all of the machines. Hmm... that would be pretty funny, but not too likely. I think there were possibly some alien creatures who had tasted the sweet deliciousness of the cookies and chips inside of the machines that they had to have more and therefore abducted the machines from the high school campus and the poor unsuspecting Millikan students. Well only time can unveil the truth of the missing vending machines. If anyone has any information on what could have happened to the machines please comment on this blog.

Scary Moment

On my way home from Satellite tonight I was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden there was a lot of smoke and people slamming on their brakes. I looked and saw a truck flipped on its side and people climbing out of it. It really freaked me out, there was only one car between me and that truck, it couldn't have been hit even 30 seconds before. There were many people helping out and everyone looked ok but very shaken up. The whole rest of the way home I was praying that those people were ok and thanking God that I was just a little behind. Wow, things like that really make you think. I just felt this wave of emotion and I'm still a little shaky, I really hope those people are alright.

Prom

Awesome. So much fun. A blast. So lets see the whole prom experience started at 5:00 when my date Nathan picked me up and we went to the El Dorado park duck pond to take pictures with a huge group of about 60 other prom friends. Then at around 6:45 we headed over to Sam's Seafood where there were about 45 people sharing a banquet room eating buffet style, which actually worked out quite well considering how many of us there were. We made it to prom around 8:45 and danced almost nonstop until midnight. It was so cool to go with a "friend" as a date because I danced with him about half of the time, but I also had the chance to dance with everyone else that I wanted to dance with. It's hard to put into words how much fun I was having. There were so many people everywhere and because we were mostly seniors I recognized most of the people and felt comfortable dancing however (see i have no rythm or dance coordination whatsoever). The DJ was alright but he kept cutting songs too short or cutting them off at the wrong parts, but it didn't matter too much. Afterwards many of my friends and I headed over to In-n-out and ate yummy fries and burgers, then we went to a friend Nick's house where we pulled almost an all nighter playing games and just having fun. Around 6:00 this morning we put in a movie and within 15 minutes I think everyone was at least halfway asleep. The chair I was in was too uncomfortable to actually fall asleep but I did doze off. I had to be home by 10:00 this morning and about 30 minutes later I fell asleep and woke up just now (about 2:00pm). Anyway that was prom for me... I had an awesome time and it finally began to hit me that in 3 weeks I'm graduating and I'm not going to see most of these people ever again. It's cool to have this night to remember forever. (Hmm, wow I'm feeling a little sentimental apparently).

Getting ready for prom...

I'm partway ready for prom and just taking a small lunch break! It's funny that prom's not until 8:00pm and yet I've been getting ready since 11:00am. Let's see I've been to the mall to get a camera and replacement sticky stuff for my bra, I took a shower and shaved everywhere, I got my nails done, I went to the bank. I still have to paint my toes (I have like 9 shades of pink nailpolish to choose from), pluck the eyebrows, get my hair done (which I'm going to do in about an hour), and do my make-up right after that. Wow so much to do so little time... but I'm getting more and more excited as I get ready! I'll post an update on how it all went hopefully sometime tomorrow!

cotton candy...

EVERYWHERE! Emma and I worked at another Carnival today, this time at lb nazarene working the cotton candy machine... It was nice and windy so the sticky sugar was flying all over us. I had cotton candy in my hair, stuck to my eyelashes, in my nose, in my toes, I had pink and blue coming out of my armpits like some beautiful pit hair, all over my arms, stuck to my clothes, and once I went to take a shower I found it in even more places. Gross. I'm surprised the bugs weren't eating us alive. Neither Emma or I even really like cotton candy, go figure.

The Dentist

It's always nice when the dentists are friendly and trying to have a conversation with you as they clean your mouth. Today I had a really nice lady cleaning my teeth when I was at my dentist appointment. She kept asking me questions like "where are you going to school?" And I was like "an eao a" and "what are you majoring in?"... "iael uhies". The best part was I think she actually understood alot of what I said. (bonus points if you know what this says, although all 3 of you who actually read my blog probably already know the answers without the need to decode)

"CSU trustees ok a 14% fee hike"

Great. It seems like i've had a lot of negative blogs lately, but here's another one. All California State Universities are increasing student fees by 14% and fall 2004 term (the year I start at San Diego State) will start this new fee increase. I heard on the news this means I'll be paying an extra about $300 dollars per semester on top of what I had already planned to pay. Hmmm, this college thing is getting a little expensive, I'm really not sure how they expect people to pay to go to college anymore. This is somehow supposed to help California's deficit. One student was quoted as saying something along the lines of "why don't the heads of the California government cut their pay checks by 2%, that should just about fix the problem". I like her thinking, seems much more logical to me.

Bad News

I just found out that my dad, who works for SBC, is going to go on strike on Friday for 4 days. This really isn't a good thing for any of the workers as they will be out of a job for awhile, so please keep all of the SBC workers and my dad in your prayers. Hopefully after 4 days the union and the company can come to some kind of agreement, but it is very likely that this thing could last much longer than 4 days with the situation as it is now. Hopefully not though. Sometimes it is hard to see God's plan, and I know I don't understand it now, but there must be some good reason for the strike...

Mama said there'd be days like this

So far today has been fairly crummy. Actually the crumminess started at about 10:00 last night when I remembered that I had a unit test in my anatomy class today and I still had to finish making about 10 diagrams for that unit to turn in today. So I decided just to wake up early and study... meaning that I woke up at about 4:30 this morning and did some major cramming. However I may as well have just slept an extra 2 hours for all the good it did me. I completely bombed the test. To make my day better when I went to drive home I found out that I had a parking violation. About half the parking lot was marked off so the lines could be repainted (why they did not do this on the weekend when it would be much easier escapes me), and this apparently meant that only staff could park in the parking lot today. I have no idea how I was supposed to know this small fact but now I get to go find out how much the parking violation will cost me, hopefully they'll just count it as a warning. So I have definitely had better days than this. I am going to my little sisters last spring concert over at lb naz. It's weird to almost finally be done with that school. Our family has been a part of lb naz school for about 15 years now, weird.

Total Concentration

So you know when you are concentrating on something it is easy to make a simple mistake? Today while I was making a poster board the title was supposed to be "Learning to Play the Piano", yet after I glued the letters down I realized that my board said "Learning to Play the Pano". Nice. I'm not really sure what a "Pano" is. At least the mistake was at the end. I had to tear off all of the letters while telling myself how dumb I am, and reput the CORRECT spelling on the board. I should have just left it, that may have been more fun.

School Projects

I'm taking a small break from working on a school poster for a project. I thought by the time I got to be a senior in high school these projects would finally be over. But apparently talking to Corrie, it never ends, great.

Long Day

I finally finished shopping for all of my accessories for prom... now I just need to buy a ticket, that might be somewhat important. I've been with family ALL DAY and am now extremely ready to get away for a little while. I'm almost done filling out my SDSU housing application which is making me feel better, it's exciting to choose where I'm going to live next year AWAY from home...

The Carnival

Friend Emma and I worked at an elementary school (Carver) carnival tonight selling these adorable bags Emma creates. When I figure out how to put pictures in my blog I'll show you some, they're very cute. Anywayz we were there for about 5 hours and ended up making about $70 each by selling the bags for $15 each, not bad at all for 2 unemployed poor high school seniors, just about enough to afford a prom ticket for next week. So I decided that everyone needs a best friend, Emma and I just sat at a booth for like 5 hours and had a blast together... even though we werent' really doing anything fun. So like I said everyone needs a friend like that. This carnival was pretty sweet too for an elementary school carnival, it made me wish I was about 10 years younger, I would have had a blast on the ferris wheel, rock climbing, 2 bounce house/obstacle course things, and lots of other fun stuff...

I thought this was cool

Ahh... there's nothing like the smell of fermaldehyde in the morning

Today was a cadaver field trip for my anatomy class. I guess the teacher figured since we had gone once before to the cadaver lab there was no need to ease us into the experience. When we walked into the room there were 5 disected bodies just laying out on the tables, need i say disturbing? and since it is a lovely hot southern california day the room was nice and stuffy, making the putrid smell of fermaldehyde (sp?) like 1000 times worse than normal. I gotta admit it is pretty cool to see the ins and outs of the human body, but the initial shock and the smell have not quite left me yet...

"QUEST" Senior Banquet

Tonight I had my Quest Sr. Banquet (QUEST is the honors program at my school). All in all it was an ok night, even though extremely long (6:30-10ish). The best part was the ice cream sundae table with every type of topping possible, where i dared my friend emma to put on all of the toppings, about 20 or so, onto her sundae. Even though she only put on about half of them it was still fun. I even won something from the raffle... while others won $50 gift certificates to fancy restaurants I won a homemade misproportioned denim purse along with a free burger at in-n-out and a coupon for buy one get one free to six flags (which is like a coupon you could pick up anywhere). So since I just ate in-n-out today already, and I went to six flags just a couple of weeks ago, and I don't like the purse, i'll have to say I was the luckiest raffle winner... In all seriousness thought it was fun to get together with about 100 of the people I've been with for four years now and have become close with through trials of frustration and procrastination.

Just Hangin Out

After staying up until 2 am last night i was kind of dragging and ready to take a nap around noon. But then my friend Niki called me, who I haven't seen or hung out with in a while cause our lives have separated because she's in college while I remain trapped in the prison of high school, and asked if I wanted to hang out. So we went to In-n-out for lunch, and then went on a bike ride through heartwell park where we attempted to complete all of the parts of the exercise course to burn off the In-n-out. It was cool to talk with Niki and catch up on old times... So even though my eyes are now burning from exhaustion I think it was much better to hang out with an old friend than waste my time on sleep. Who needs sleep anyway? Oh yeah and I forgot the best part, I learned to ride my bike with no hands! fun stuff...

The Psychic

Last Saturday night I went to a friends 18th birthday party where her parents went all out with caterers and a chocolate fountain (yum!) and even hired a psychic. I don't believe in psychics, however many of my friends seemed to. The whole thing seemed like a hoax to me, but i couldn't believe how much it affected my friends! This led to an interesting conversation with my friends wesley and kari. As Christians is it wrong for us to seek answers from someone other than God? Such as a psychic? We decided that even though we didn't believe in the psychic it would be wrong to go and talk to her, in the truth that we could be tricked, becuase that is what psychics do, trick people. Also as Christians we needed to be examples to those around us... if we were to go to the psychic with questions, others may have questioned the truth of our faith. All in all it was a very interesting conversation, and neat to talk to these two people about our faiths, we are all in different stages in our journey with God, and explain to others the reason we chose not to talk to the psychic. What do you think? Would it have been ok to talk with her because we didn't believe in her "supernatural powers"? or was our decision the right one?

Stress

So I have been taking these AP (Advanced Placement) tests for the past 2 weeks now and I am extremely over it. I have already taken 3, and now I have just 1 left... but I feel like I already want it to be over and summer to come. I think I've caught the senioritis bug... oh well.. just a little longer.

The First Blog

So hey I found this website and thought "cool", I could start a blog of my own! Anywayz I'm not really sure what I will be posting yet. I am a senior in high school, moving away to college in a few months, and thought it would be interesting to write about my life as I mature into a "real" adult and prepare to leave my dependent life as i know it.
