Pet Peeves

Lately some things have been bothering me at work. Probably more than they should be, but when repeated over and over it gets annoying. I don't mean about the job, but more about the customers I help out. So here is my list of pet peeves:

- Cell Phones: When you actually go up to check out your purchases, put the cell phone down! I have many questions I need to ask, or policies I need to inform you of. Plus it slows down the process of checking out, which makes the next customer irritable who had to wait for too long.

- When you pay for your items, don't put your money on the counter, or worse toss it on the counter. HAND IT to the cashier. I feel like it's degrading. I hand you your money back, take care to put all your items neatly in a bag, and be pleasant. I am not your inferior.

Those are probably my biggest 2 annoyances at the moment, especially because they happen so often, but there are a couple more.

- Talk to the cashier! I don't mean have a full on conversation or anything. But I've had a few customers who when I ask "How are you", actually not respond at all. Or "Did you find everything ok?" Still not say anything. Wow.

- Don't complain to me about the prices. I didn't set them. In fact especially with text books, I am a student as well!! I have to buy them too! And you know what? They're the same stinking price at every other college!! I agree. It sucks. Write a letter to the publishers complaining that they make a new edition every year! Or to your professor that he insists on using that newest edition every year.

- And yes, textbooks are no longer refundable. It is 2 weeks before finals. We are not a library. You can't purchase a textbook simply to study for a final this late in the semester and then return it. Don't yell at me for your own procrastination.

- Talking down to the cashier. We aren't stupid, especially where I work. All of us are college students just like most of our customers. If we do happen to make a little mistake, don't freak out! It's probably easily fixable and was most likely made because we had 2 hours of sleep the night before studying for midterms... just like you.

Ok... I think that's all my pet peeves to complain about tonight!

I am now officially obsessed

With Sushi!! I was craving it today. How in the heck do you crave sushi? I don't know but I was. Maybe it was the fact that we had to use chopsticks in my Bio lab class today?
So I went to get Sushi with a couple of friends after school :) And now I am so satisfied! Hehe.

Just 3 more weeks!

I can't believe this semester has gone by this fast. I have 2 more weeks of classes and then a week of finals and then I am done for this semester! Good times. Let the studying begin. I would say let the lack of sleep begin, but it already begun in like August and hasn't improved.

It surprisingly only took me 2.5 hours to get home.

I am really enjoying the excuse for a mini vacation thanks to Thanksgiving.
I've spent alot of time with my family which has been really nice. I think I've really been missing them lately but haven't noticed it being caught up in the daily whirlwind of being a college student. I'm enjoying talking to them face to face and just hanging out.
On top of seeing my family I've managed to catch up with a few friends as well. I went to a movie today with Corrie, Saydee, and Saydee's sister Joleene. Tonight I hung out with Emma for a decent amount of time. I have not actually seen her since late August. Probably the longest amount of time apart since we were 5. It's difficult enough working with one college students random schedule to try to make visits and see people, let alone 2 college students I guess. We just hung out at my house for a while talking and ate some yummy home cooked food my mom made. Then went and drank Starbucks while sitting in the kid chairs at Barnes and Noble (the only available seats) before catching the last showing of Rent (which by the way I absolutely loved).
And that's about all for now. Tomorrow I'm having lunch with my friend Dana. Really cool to be able to see so many people in such a short time. Cramming as much as I can into 4 days! Not sure I'm quite ready to go back tomorrow, but I guess I don't really have a choice there.
Oh yes and I forgot to order my Starbucks decaf and now I am wide awake and am supposed to get up early tomorrow to run errands with my mom. :/

Driving Home

Well I am driving home today sometime after work. I get off at 4:30. So basically I am going to be sitting in horrible traffic! But I'd rather drive home today than tomorrow. I am prepared for awful traffic. My guess is 4 hours? The longest it's taken me before is 3.5. So it's entirely plausible! Wish me luck!

Who needs a voice?

So my voice is leaving me :( It's been progressively leaving me all day. When I was little I used to think that girls who had those deep voices which I thought were kind of sexy were cool and I was jealous. And now that is what I sound like. Although I'm not sure you can really call it sexy...

Thanksgiving is just a few days away! Meaning I get to go home and see my family and hopefully a few friends! Yah! I haven't seen my daddy in a month. That's really strange to think about. If I were to keep that up I'd only see him 12 times in the whole year as opposed to the 365 it was 3 years ago... I was thinking lately how when I moved away to start school I don't think I really realized how big of a change it was going to be. Maybe this is a redundant topic. Sorry. It's just been actually really hitting me lately. I just don't feel like I am at that point where I am old enough and "grown up" enough to reach that point, when in reality I guess I am.

Nature Center, Sushi, and Orange Juice

I went to the Chula Vista Nature Center today with my friends Tracy, Nicole, and their room mate Sarah. We had to go and answer about 25 questions for our Biology Lab class. It was a very nice day to go. The temperature was perfect, and it was right by the San Diego bay giving us a nice breeze. I think the birds were the coolest part. There was one bird in the aviary who kept making a mating call to us. The caretaker guy thought it was pretty funny. The bird had no fear, it just kept coming right up to us and poofing out the feathers on its head and making this weird clicking sound.
After a lovely 3 hours of answering questions and looking at birds, bugs, plants, and fish we went to eat some fish :) We headed back and stopped at a Sushi place for dinner. I generally don't do Sushi. But I thought what the heck, why not try it? So I did. I had California rolls and avocado and cucumber rolls. I know this is sort of a bit of a cop out. But it was something I could handle and it was still really good!
Oh yes, and to bring up the last part of my title, I'm sick again :( Yesterday I thought it was probably just allergies (which doesn't really make sense since I have never had allergies in my entire life). But anyway, now it's definitely a cold. Meaning I am doping myself up on yummy orange juice!

I Recommend...

Going and seeing a matinee by yourself on a random weekday. I just got back from seeing Walk the Line. Just me and a bunch of people who qualified for senior citizen discounts. It was a nice relaxer though. Good movie and nice to do something just because just for me :)

Guess What?

No lame Laura moments today! But I did get a 90% on my Psychology test. YES! And went to a study abroad meeting and am even more pumped up about it than before! So now I just need to set up an appointment to talk to someone one on one, and figure out exactly which program is right for me. I'm so excited! I talked to Emma a couple of days ago and she is for sure studying abroad next year first semester in England. And that's what I'm really hoping to do as well!

Day 2 of Being a Dork

I reset my alarm this morning so I could sleep a little longer. Only problem is I didn't turn it back on! So I woke up feeling decently rested this morning only to look at the clock and see that it was 10:20!! Oops. At least I only missed my 9:00 class and made it late to the 2nd... Hopefully tomorrow I won't have another lame Laura incident to tell about! So far Monday and Tuesday both have one :/

Is there really such a thing as "Balance"?

Last week I didn't have any tests or quizzes or papers or anything. Just a few minimal homework assignments and the usual reading to keep up. This week BAM! 3 Tests, a music quiz where we actually play the recorder (gulp), and a Science experiment lab report. I tried to do alot last week. but still this week there is so much! It's already overwhelming and it's only Monday!!
*Sigh. Sorry I use this blog to complain so much!
Let me think of a funner note to end with... Umm...
Today at work I got to wrap empty boxes to look like Christmas presents for a display. One very simple rule. I had 2 boxes of the same size and 2 different wrapping papers. Rule: Wrap each box in different paper. Easy enough right? Well, I failed. My manager just laughed at me, (more like with me). Great start to the crazy week!

1/2 of family visiting

Last Friday was Veteran's day and most normal people have the day off. Apparently most colleges didn't get the memo. Oh well! But anyway my mom called me the day before to see if I was doing anything Friday or Saturday. I wasn't really so her and my sister drove down to visit. It was really good to see them. Unfortunately my dad couldn't come because he had to work and it was kind of a spur of the moment trip.
We had fun just kind of hanging out and doing some shopping and movie watching. Since it seems like I rarely make it up to Long Beach these days it was cool that they took the time to drive and visit.
I love my family. Writing this is making me miss them already! Well... just 2 weeks until Thanksgiving...

It's Official!

I have officially changed my major to pre-business! I'm way excited! I was just wondering today why I was putting off changing it when I've known for a while that I was going to. So I did! All it took was about 45 minutes of traveling all over the school to different offices and boom! I'm in :)
What does this mean? Well 24 more units of pre-business and then I can declare the upper division major of whatever I choose (right now thinking management). So basically another year depending on what happens with studing abroad!
But anyway right now I'm just excited and feel good about the decision!

Good to know:

Plastic can melt in the microwave. And when you pull it out after it melts and it drips on your hand it burns. Poor little Jenn :(

My Sister

Started a blog!! Yah! I'm so excited. I miss her :( Love you Emily!! For those of you who haven't seen Emily in a while, she's a sophomore in high school now. Crazy huh?

PLNU Preview Days

Well obviously I didn't go to PLNU preview days :) But they were the reason that I got the chance to see Corrie and Saydee and a couple of PLNU kids this weekend. We had fun just hanging out after Corrie and Saydee finished with their Point Loma stuff. We showed Saydee around San Diego a bit. Although we couldn't do too much walking because Corrie hurt her foot. Bummer. No worries though. We had fun being dorks as normal. Spinning quarters forever at Starbucks and watching way too much TV. Flicking salt packets back and forth way too many times. Eating too much Mexican food and other yummy food. Walking a little at the beach, driving way too many times between Point Loma and my apartment (a good 20 minute trip at least).
Here's a few pics from this weekend:

Blowing chapstick across the table again and again. Boy I'm sure the people at Starbucks were thrilled we were there!

I don't really know. I guess we couldn't resist the 4 for $1 deal on noses at Target!

Public Transportation

I bought a month trolley pass so that I can take the trolley to school. There's a stop right at our apartment and as of just last year, a stop at SDSU as well.
I should have bought a semester one at the beginning of the year... but kept stalling and so just drove instead. I didn't really know which was easier.
Well, now I'm taking the trolley as much as possible! It's so stinking easy and much faster. Public Transportation can be great. And definitely a chance to meet some interesting people!
